Same sex marriages - too hot to touch

I don't judge people. I refuse to. Even when I hear some outlandish things people have done, I try to refrain from saying, "What were they thinking???"

The most judgmental thing I think you can say to someone is, "You're going straight to hell." Yet, those words slip from people's mouths everyday as they condemn the actions of another.

When I opened my MSN home page today, I saw this headline, "Civil unions for gays now available in N.J."

New Jersey is now the third state in the U.S. to offer civil unions, which gives same-sex partners the legal benefits of marriage without the actual title.

I don't keep up with the status of same sex marriages in this country and I tune people out when they bring up the topic of homosexuality in the realm of politics. But something caught my eye and made me read the article, perhaps because just yesterday I was asking how young is too young to be married.

How do you feel about same-sex marriages? To me, I don't believe God hates gay people. Nope, not at all. God made us all. Why would He hate what He created?

Feel free to debate amongst yourselves...Leave me comments, even if you disagree! ESPECIALLY if you disagree. Debate is nothing without opposite opinions.

You know (and I'm pretty sure this is a stereotype) I've found that people who speak out most against same sex marriages tend to be men. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems that way to me.

That is the funniest cartoon, Tara!

Yeah, just look at the hate Tim Hardaway spewed recently towards gays.

Not very Christ-like, Tim.

Anyhoo, I think you're right, God does not hate homosexuals, and I can't judge people harshly because the Lord has forgiven me for so much in my life...

While I don't necessarily believe it's God plan, I symphathize with people who seriously say they feel like they're trapped in the wrong body or just aren't attracted to the opposite sex.

But I still feel marriage should be sacred. And us straight couples need to treat it that way!

Tim Hardaway is a whole 'nother topic. I was going to blog about him, but I figured what was the point?

I think being a true Christian means being able to see others as God sees us. Being able to see God in people and treating them as such. That's how I try to live my life....

When this first became a hot topic, I use to think I dont care what people do, but allowing same sex marriages is a bit much.

Ive kindof changed my opinion on that now. Well to be honest, Im still unsure how I feel about it.

I do think that if a couple create a life together, even though it is a same sex situation, they have still lived and created a life together in a family/marriage like way and should beable to have the same benefits, rights, protection, and oportunities that traditional marriages have, such as health insurance, combining income to buy property, sharing bad credit, and all the other things that regular tax paying marriages have...since they still are tax paying people contributing to the economy just like everyone else.

I just think that it should be called something other than a marriage. mainly because my belief that a marriage is a "union between a man and woman" and I kindof always looked at homosexuality as sortof a "alternate lifestyle choice" key word being choice. Maybe im wrong

Hi David,

But maybe you're right. Is homosexuality a choice? Or is it something we have no control over? I don't really feel like I "chose" to be heterosexual. I feel like that is who I am. So is it any different for homosexuals? I dunno...

A lot of people seem to be able to justify the presence of things they don't agree with by the argument that it wasn't God that made it but rather the devil. You can justify pretty much anything that way.

I don't think that homosexuality is a choice. Even in the 21st century being homosexual can very often mean a life of persecution and discrimination and I don't think many people would pick that if it was a choice.

I personally think that everyone should stop worrying about everyone else's sex lives and concentrate on their own. I don't spend every waking hour worrying about what hetro people are up to in the bedroom so why would I care what homosexuals are up to?

I particularly like the argument that is doing the rounds at the moment that gay marriage undermines straight marriage. HOW????? I'd have thought that in this day and age we should be encouraged that people are sill looking to make a life commitment to someone.

If you don't like it then don't do it but leave each to their own I say!
