Am I a serious blogger or am I just playin'?
I've been updating almost daily for about a month now. Why? What am I hoping to accomplish from this? I have to admit, I do enjoy writing on a regular basis, writing things that won't be graded or judged too harshly. I like writing about what I think is interesting, and sharing my opinions with others.
At the beginning of this year, I made a vow that THIS would be the year that I elevate my financial status - in other words, I'm trying to get paid! I love writing, so I figured this is the way to do it. I'm blogging, writing for a couple of sites, trying to land a steady writing gig somewhere, just trying to get my name OUT THERE.
It's hard though and I find myself getting discouraged. My page views are much much lower than I would like them to be. I'm praying on it and trying to be patient but anyone who has known me for more than five minutes knows that patience isn't my strong point. I want success so bad I can taste it, I can hear it, I can feel it and it isn't enough for me to sit back and wait.
I see successful people and I study their stories and their background and I try to see what they did to get to where they are. What books do they read? What do they believe? What are their prinicples for success? How did they do it?
I believe this is just who I am. I'm always striving to improve. Like that Toyota motto, I'll move in any direction, as long as it's forward.
I have to be successful. I come from a long line of people who are just full of potential but one roadblock or another kept them from achieving greatness.
I don't want to be like that.
I WANT a better life.
I NEED to be successful.
I WILL be successful.

Persistence is the main thing. And you're young so you have years of burning focus working to your advantage right now. That's the one thing all those famous people you've been reading about have in common. They stuck with it. It didn't happen overnight so don't count on that but do hang in there and keep on writing.
I'd also recommend adding public speaking to your repertoire. Find out where your nearest Toastmasters International club is and join it. That's a good resume filler.
I'm with you on monetizing the blog. I'm even diversifying and designing a new one as I type. More on that later though. Keep doing what you're doing.
Write about the Cornell West/Tavis Smiley event and tell us what you thought about it. I bet you'll get lots of comments on it.
I know, Tara, I know.
Some days I get a little nagging, wondering: Why am I doing this?
But then the Lord brings back the joy of daily blogging to my heart and shows me that things take time to build.
We live in such an instant society, I too remind myself to slow down...
Keep the faith,
Paula
Tara - I felt the same way when I started blogging. I'd look at my sad little page view number and think - why on earth am I spending so much time doing this? But eventually, people found me and they will find you too!
Good quality content is and always will be the key and you've got that going for you!
You've got a great blog going here, girl. Keep up the good work. Definitely persistence and determination are key to so many things.
Blessings,
GM
